Shalom,
Di dalam PORSI PEMBACAAN TORAH [PARASHAH] YITRO dan MISHPATIM, kita sedang membahas tentang TORAH. Kita mengetahui bahwa HA'SHEM memberikan 2 LOH BATU (TABLET) dan TORAH TERTULIS kepada Moshe (Musa).
Tentang 2 LOH BATU tersebut dikatakan:
Keluaran 32:16
v'ha.lu.chot ma.a.se e.lo.him he.ma v'ha.mich.tav mich.tav e.lo.him hu CHA.RUT al-ha.lu.chot
The tablets were the work of G-d; and the writing was the writing of G-d, ENGRAVED [חָר֖וּת - CHARUT] on the tablets.
“Said Rabbi Joshua the son of Levi: … it says (Exodus 32:16): “And the tablets are the work of G-d, and the writing is G-d’s writing, ENGRAVED on the tablets,” read not “ENGRAVED” [CHARUT] but “LIBERTY” [CHAIRUT]—for there is no free individual, except for he who occupies himself with the study of Torah…”
Zohar, Shemoth, Section 2, Page 114a, Soncino Press Edition
“Therefore the Scripture proclaims: “the tablets were the work of G-d” (Elohim), from the time when the world was still under the aegis of the name Elohim, before the Shabbat had entered. The writing, too, was the ”writing of G-d”, BLACK FIRE on WHITE FIRE, and it was CHARUT [ENGRAVED] because the Jubilee proclaims FREEDOM [CHAIRUT] to all worlds.”

In Parashah YITRO and Parashah MISHPATIM we read how G-d gave the TORAH to the congregation of Israel. Regarding the TABLETS, in Exodus it says:
Exodus 32:16
v'ha.lu.chot ma.a.se e.lo.him he.ma v'ha.mich.tav mich.tav e.lo.him hu CHA.RUT al-ha.lu.chot
The tablets were the work of G-d; and the writing was the writing of G-d, ENGRAVED [חָר֖וּת - CHARUT] on the tablets.
The Hebrew word for “ENGRAVED” can also be read “LIBERTY; FREEDOM.”
Pirkei Avot 6:2 says:
“Said Rabbi Joshua the son of Levi: … it says (Exodus 32:16): “And the tablets are the work of G-d, and the writing is G-d’s writing, engraved on the tablets,” read not “engraved” (charut) but “liberty” (chairut)—for there is no free individual, except for he who occupies himself with the study of Torah…”
This tradition is apparently quoted by Yaakov, or James, the brother of Yeshua:
James 1:25 - Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)
But if a person looks closely into the perfect Torah, which gives FREEDOM [חרות], and continues, becoming not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work it requires, then he will be blessed in what he does.
The Zohar comments on the deeper level meaning of this concept:
Zohar, Shemoth, Section 2, Page 114a, Soncino Press Edition
“Therefore the Scripture proclaims: “the tablets were the work of G-d” (Elohim), from the time when the world was still under the aegis of the name Elohim, before the Shabbat had entered. The writing, too, was the ”writing of G-d”, BLACK FIRE on WHITE FIRE, and it was CHARUT [ENGRAVED] because the Jubilee proclaims FREEDOM [CHAIRUT] to all worlds.”
It is often taught that the Torah is “bondage.” This is only true if one misinterprets and misapplies the Torah. Israel did not become free when they left Egypt. They become truly free when they accepted, and applied the Torah. The TORAH is FREEDOM!
